Naptime

The other day it was SO nice out, that I hauled a sleeping bag on the front porch to take my nap. Here's the view I had. (I didn't sleep; I got too hot.)

 

New career path

Ethan's started a new career path--doing hair. Here's his first documented success on Alana. Usually the hair-do's include curlers, but this one is quite the exception. Lovely, wouldn't you say?

 

Ethan on Sousa Marches

We found an old tape of Sousa marches in the basement. Ethan listens to it many times a day. The bad thing is-we're sick of hearing it over and over. The good thing about it is it cheers him up no matter what, and it usually ends up with him leaping and dancing. He looks like a little ghetto kid walking around the house, taking his boom box into whichever room he goes and cranks the tunes! Levi said, "If we gave things up for Lent, I'd wish that Ethan would give up his Sousa tape!"

 

April showers bring...

SNOWMEN!! I've been a negligent mother in that I've never made a snowman with Ethan. Guess I got one more chance. (What are the chances I'd get it in April?!) She's quite a lovely, isn't she?

 

Hobo Dinner

 

This may not look like much, but it's a quick, easy supper idea I found in the NRC churches' Iowa cookbook. It's called Individual Hobo Dinner. I had forgotten about it until Levi requested them for supper the other night. On a sheet of foil, you put a hamburger patty, some sliced potatoes (I happened to use hashbrowns,)onions (I was in a hurry so I used minced), carrots, fresh or canned mushrooms (since I had some on hand) or any other vegetable you'd like to include. I salt and pepper everything and then add a dollop of undiluted cream of mushroom soup. Wrap the foil around the whole works and bake for 40ish minutes. I make each person his/her own, smaller for the kids. You can adapt what you put in for each person's likes or dislikes. To serve you just put on your plate, open it up, devour the contents, wad up the foil, through it in the trash and you're finished! Super easy clean-up. I was told you can cook these at a campfire in hot coals too, but we aren't that hoboish yet.

Valentine's Day

Our Valentine's tradition is that we eat heart-shaped pizza by candlelight. After supper this year, we wrote love notes to each other on heart-shaped papers. Then we read them outloud and hung them on strings to make a heart chandelier.

 

 

 

 

Snowy days

Haven't posted in awhile. Hard to get nice pictures in the winter. Plus the fact that I'm working full time for 6 weeks might have something to do with it, too! (I'm subbing for a teacher on maternity leave.) It's first grade, and I'm loving it!! These are just pictures of the kids playing together outside. Levi was whipping Alana around on the sled...until they landed in a heap on top of each other!
